Practice French by analyzing a song: Pick any song with French lyrics (I recommend “Quelqu’un m’a dit” by Carla Bruni), and look up the lyrics. Listen and read at the same time. Look up words you don’t know. The advantage of this is that you can hear the words pronounced correctly! You should also use it as an opportunity to practice French grammar. You are able to look, see, observe new grammatical structures in real life. Other good French artists are Keren Ann, Garou, Grégoire, Alizée, and the list goes on.
Practice French by reading the newspaper or even better, listen to the radio in French.Some good newspapers online are Le Monde, l’Express, Le Parisien. This may be a little bit more difficult, but it is a GREAT source of free French practice online, and you get the added bonus of working with authentic material!

There are several other sources which allow you to practice French online. A Google search of “French practice” or “French review and practice” should bring up some very helpful resources. It’s also useful to search for French practice exams or French practice tests.
How to practice French with books
Pick up a fun book, either a French translation of an English book or a French children’s book, and read both the French and the English. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is widely available in English and French and is a great starting point. If you’re a Harry Potter fan, I would recommend getting the French translation off amazon.com. When you are reading, be sure to practice your French verbs skills by parsing and recognition exercises. For a bonus in French speaking practice, read the books out loud. It will really help you to get a sense of the rhythm and the beautiful sound of French out loud.
Obtain the book 501 French verbs. This book is a great reference to practice French verbs and to see when certain forms become irregular.
Obtain some fun new vocabulary: The book “Hide This French Book” by Berlitz will bring you up to date on all the slang and some really fun expressions. I highly recommend it to increase your range of vocabulary and to motivate you to practice in French.
How to practice French offline
Find a conversation group in your area. This is a very forgiving environment where you can just practice with advanced and native speakers who want you to become a better speaker! Many times, this also equates to free French practice because the other members of the group volunteer their time to help you! They can also give you a real life French practice exam, in which you can get a feel for how French operates in “real time.”
